Dear Supporters of Israel,

I will attempt to keep this short. I joined the Stand By Israel Meetup Group list in late November. Since then, I've been glad to see a number of other people join the list. Sadly, however, at this time there appears to be no one organizing the group. As such, I've taken it upon myself to pay meetup.com the fee to become the organizer of the group (which is the only way to do it), and try to get regular meetings going,-- that is, until at least, I can hand over the leadership to someone more suitable for this organizing stuff.

Anyway, why now?? Well, Israel is particularly vulnerable right now. The Second Lebanon war, while achieving some of its goals, has led to reduced deterrence of the IDF. This is a big problem. Worse (much worse!) is the looming prospect of a Nuclear Iran.

Putting an end to Iran's nuclear ambitions should be at the top of the list for every Israel supporter. This is a dire threat on multiple levels, including: 1) direct nuclear bombing of Israel 2) handing over of nuclear weapons to terrorist groups for the same purpose 3) using the threat of a nuclear bomb to limit Israel's response to the attacks of Hamas, Hezbollah and other Iranian proxy armies/terrorists organizations 4) nuclear blackmail of Israel 5) nuclear blackmail of other countries (particularly Europe) in order to prejudice Israel's interests, 6) and so on. Of course, a nuclear Iran is not only an existential threat to Israel. It is a threat to the entire Western world.

Iran's nuclear program must be stopped BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY. This probably means war-- and, I believe, that we, indeed, should be supporting military intervention there! Without the threat of military intervention, Iran is sure to continue pursuing its nuclear program! This is what I hope the group will be focused on for the time being: Supporting American/world Military Intervention in Iran.

Preliminarily, I'd like people to respond with what they think would be the best time for all of us to meet. I think sometime next week (Monday through Wednesday) would be a good time for the first meeting (of this renewed group). Thursday is no good, as on that day there is a 92nd Street Y event concerning the Second Lebanon War. Sunday, is probably just too soon at this point. I think a 7:30PM time slot is ideal. Also, we need to decide on a suitable place. I favor some sort of Israeli place, but, not sure what is the right call here.

Anyway, I look forward to your responses, and I will post a meeting time and place for next week by Sunday noon. I'd like the process to be on fast track, but to also get a little bit of democratic input.
